Rental Agreement

Effective 4 March 2008
Updated 22 June 2012

This agreement is between you, the renter, and CampusBookRentals.com.

Condition of Books
Books rented from CampusBookRentals.com are guaranteed to be correct according to your order, and in an acceptable used or new condition. Hardback or paperback books will be shipped at CampusBookRentals.com's discretion and depending upon supplier availability. Books may also be an instructor's version if it is determined by CampusBookRentals.com that the instructor's version is identical to the student version (besides instructor comments). It is our policy to rent only US edition textbooks. Unlike many online booksellers, we guarantee our books to be US editions. Supplemental materials, such as student access codes, CD ROMs, or supplemental workbooks are not guaranteed to come with your books even if the title of the book contains language regarding CD ROMs or other forms of supplements. Although we do our very best to find books that include all their supplements, many such materials are one-time use and are not available through our suppliers in used condition. Be sure before you order that you either have access to these supplements or that you don't actually need them for your class.

Shipping
CampusBookRentals.com relies on the expertise of our shipping providers which are USPS, UPS, and FedEx to get your books to you on time. Rare problems such as weather delays, rural routes, or shipping carrier system delays could prevent a perfect delivery. CampusBookRentals.com agrees to work very closely with any customer that does not receive their book within the time frame selected. After a 24-48 hour processing period, please allow 7-14 business days (9-16 calendar days) for standard delivery, 4-7 business days (5-9 calendar days) for expedited delivery. Should a problem arise, CampusBookRentals.com will work very hard to track down the delivery problem or send out a replacement textbook at no cost to you.

We do not ship to APO, FPO, PO Box addresses.

Ownership
Books rented from CampusBookRentals.com are the property of CampusBookRentals.com. At no time during the rental period does the renter obtain ownership of the books unless the renter purchases the book according to our service policy.

Agreement to Return Books
You agree to return rented textbooks to CampusBookRentals.com, located in Ogden, UT, using the prepaid shipping label and envelope provided on or before the last day of your rental period. Books that are not returned to the Ogden, UT warehouse will not be cleared from your account. Please make sure you are using the CampusBookRentals.com prepaid USPS shipping label to return all books. They are provided free of charge and provide both us and you definitive tracking of your books.

Books not Returned on Time
We will do our best to make returning your books simple and easy. As stated above, we even provide the return package with prepaid label already attached. If however, books are not returned at the end of the rental period (and after the grace period), as specified in the rental agreement, the renter will be notified via email that their card will be charged for a 15 day extension of their book(s). If the book is not returned by the end of the 15 days the next charge will be for the purchase price of the book, which is Market Value of Book at time of Rental - (Rental Fee + Extension) = Purchase price of book. We work very hard to resolve every return discrepancy. After all, our wish is to keep you as a happy customer and continue to rent textbooks to you throughout your college career. The value of the textbook is determined to be the value of the book at the time it was initially rented; not the value at the time the card is charged.

Maintenance and Care of Textbooks
You, the renter, agree to keep textbooks in an acceptable used condition. CampusBookRentals.com is liable and responsible for the condition of rented textbooks only until they are received by the renter at the onset of the rental period. At the time of initial receipt, you, the renter, take full responsibility for the textbook. If textbook is lost, stolen, or damaged beyond reasonable use (cover ripped off, pages torn out, excessive water damage, etc.) renter will be responsible to either replace textbook with textbook in similar condition, or be charged the full replacement value for the textbook less the rental fee already paid. CampusBookRentals.com understands normal wear and tear on a textbook. We even allow highlighting and writing within reason. Excessive damage is any damage that would prevent another student from reasonably being able to use and gain the full learning value from the textbook. Our loss / damage protection (explained in the next paragraph) is offered as an option to cover against theft, loss, and damage.

Loss / Damage Protection
If you select the loss / damage protection option, should your book become lost, stolen, or damaged beyond reasonable use, for a very reasonable fee of only 25% of the initial rental amount, we will promptly send you a replacement copy (if you still require the use of your book) or waive the purchase/replacement costs. When you protect your books with our loss / damage protection program, you can worry about your studies, not your books. See our Example and Terms and Conditions below.

Example
A book that rents for $55 has a value of approximately $137. If this book was not protected and needed to be replaced, the student would be charged an additional $82. With the loss / damage protection however, the student would pay only a fee of $13.75 (fee is equal to 25% of the rental price) saving the student $68.25.

Terms and Conditions
Loss / damage protection is not required. Books can only be protected at the time of initial rental or re-rental. The loss / damage protection price varies based on the book. Books not protected will be subject to CampusBookRentals.com's terms for replacing lost, stolen, or damaged textbooks according to the Rental Agreement. Protection period for the covered books is for the term of the rental and grace period only. Protection will not transfer to any other book, including replacement book, unless it is also purchased on the replacement book at time of replacement. A fee in the amount of 25% of the rental price must be paid via credit card at time of any loss or damage claim. Protection only covers rented textbooks against loss, theft, or damage which deems the book unusable and invaluable to CampusBookRentals.com. Loss / damage fraud is strictly punished by law. CampusBookRentals.com reserves the right to decline loss / damage protection to customers if instances of fraud or misuse are detected. Customers are encouraged to keep a copy of their receipt as it displays which books are insured. Any claim must be made via email to info@campusbookrentals.com. Please submit your order number and ISBN or title of the book you are making claim against. Claims are processed within 24-48 hours excluding weekends and major holidays.

Right to Cancel Orders
CampusBookRentals.com retains the right to cancel or refuse any order that results from an error in pricing due to typographical errors, miscommunication with our partners, or any other incorrect information.

Refund and Return Policy
No hassles. No worries. Any book returned within the first 21 days after the order date will be refunded 100%. Please do not wait for your prepaid shipping envelope to arrive if you are returning a book. Simply print off a return label from inside your customer account. We reserve the right to refuse a refund if we see the refund policy is being abused.

Liability
CampusBookRentals.com shall not be held liable for any damages incurred, physical or emotional, tangible or intangible, beyond the rental price of the textbook. Books which are lost in transit will be replaced at no extra charge; however, CampusBookRentals.com shall not be held liable for poor performance in school or any other tort stemming from the rental or non receipt of your textbooks.

Rental Periods
We have structured our rental periods to fit the needs of a college student. The last thing we want is you worrying about not getting your book back to us on time. We have incorporated, at no extra charge, a grace period which allows you to rent your book early or hold on to it late in the case of a later than normal final exam. Each rental period and our grace period are discussed in detail below.

Grace Period
All of our rental periods come with a 15 (fifteen) day grace period. We've been in your shoes. Sometimes you would like to get your books early, or you need to take a make-up final exam. Our 15 day grace period allows you the flexibility to hold on to the book long enough to get you through to the bitter end. Don't hesitate to use it. That's why it's there! The grace period applies to all of the rental periods below (for example, the 130 day rental period gives you 145 days to get the book back to our warehouse).

Semester (130 days)
This rental period was designed for students attending full semesters. All textbooks rented under this rental period must be returned to our warehouse 145 days from the day your books were rented, See how easy the return process is in the "Return Your Books" section below.

Quarter (85 days)
This rental period is used mainly by students on quarters or in a Master's program. All textbooks rented under this rental period must be returned to our warehouse 100 days from the day your books were rented. See how easy the return process is in the "Return Your Books" section below.

Summer (55 days)
This rental period is used mainly by students taking summer courses or those taking intense (condensed) courses year round. All textbooks rented under this rental period must be returned to our warehouse 70 days from the day your books were rented. See how easy the return process is in the "Return Your Books" section below.

Pick Your Own Return Date
Yep, just like it sounds. You tell us when your classes end, and we'll tell you the due date and give you a custom price. Totally flexible to meet your schedule and includes the same 15 day grace period as our standard rental time frames.

Extensions
We offer 15 and 30 day extensions if you find yourself needing to keep your book just a bit longer. Extending your rental period is easy. Simply access your account, choose the amount of time to extend, and checkout. Your account will be updated to show the new rental period.

Re-Renting
If you need to retake a class you can re-rent your book for 30% less than the original rental price. This still saves you big time over purchasing it. Simply access your account, select the "Re-Rent" button and continue the checkout process. Your account will be updated to show the new status.

Buying Your Books
If you decide you want to keep your book forever, simply access your account and select the book or books you wish to buy. Then select the "Buy and Keep My Books" button. This amount is the difference between what you already paid in rental fees and the value of the book. If you decide to purchase the book, simply complete the checkout process. Your account will be updated to show the new status.

CampusBookRentals.com retains the right to use collection agencies to recover costs on non-returned textbooks in the event of a canceled credit card or a credit card without available funds.

You, the renter, agree to resolve disputes directly with CampusBookRentals.com and not through a third party.

CampusBookRentals.com agrees to keep all your personal and payment information confidential in accordance with our privacy policy.

FAQ'S

1. How do I track my books?
Log in to your account by clicking here. Once inside, you'll see your current textbook rentals listed along with a yellow box that says "track". Click there to view the tracking number and track your book(s). Note: not all books will have a tracking number, but most do and tracking numbers are loaded into your account as they become available.
2. How do I return my books?
Each time you rent textbooks from CampusBookRentals.com, you'll receive a bubble envelope with a prepaid USPS label attached to the outside. When you're done with your books, simply place them inside the return envelope and drop the package off at the nearest USPS drop box or Post Office. Shipping is all prepaid. PLEASE only use this method to return your books, because it will insure they arrive at the correct facility.
3. Can I write or highlight in my books?
You certainly can. Just remember that future students will rent the same book after you, so try to be respectful.
4. Are your books the same as my bookstore?
You can be confident when you rent textbooks from us, your books will be correct according to your order. We do not carry or ship international editions or reprints. We only ship US edition textbooks, which are the same as your campus bookstore. On occassion, if the only book we have available is a US teacher's edition, and if it is determined to be the same as the student edition page for page and word for word, we may elect to send it, though this is very rare.
5. How long does it take to get my books?
It depends on the shipping method you choose. We offer free shipping anywhere in the contiguous US which can take 7-14 business days. If you choose expedited shipping you can expect your order in about a week (5-8 business days). Remember, we offer a 21 day no-hassle money-back guarantee if you drop your class, order the wrong book, or just plain change your mind. You won't even pay for shipping.
6. Are there any fees to sign up?
There are no fees for signup. When you rent textbooks from us, there are no membership fees, hidden fees, or anything unusual whatsoever. We display the price you pay to rent the book, and that's it. What you see is what you get.
7. Can anyone rent books, or just students?
Yes, anyone can rent. You do not have to be attending school to rent textbooks from us.
8. Can I purchase my book after I rent it?
Yes, you can. You're only charged the difference between what you already paid to rent the book, and the value of the book at the time you initially rented. This is what makes renting textbooks so cool; it saves you money, while still allowing you to purchase the book if you'd like to. If you decide to keep a book, simply log in to your customer account, choose to purchase your book, and it will walk you through the checkout process.
9. Are there late fees?
We will do our best to make returning your book(s) simple and easy. As stated above, we even provide the return package with a prepaid label already attached. If however, books are not returned at the end of the rental period (and after the grace period), as specified in the rental agreement, the renter will be notified via email that their card will be charged for a 15 day extension of their book(s). If the book is not returned by the end of the 15 days the next charge will be for the purchase price of the book, which is: Market Value of Book at time of Rental - (Rental Fee + Extension) = Purchase Price of Book. We do work very hard to resolve every return discrepancy amicably. We want our customers to be happy and continue to rent textbooks throughout their college careers.

Renting Textbooks

Over one million students across nearly 6,000 campuses rent their textbooks from CampusBookRentals. That’s quite an endorsement from a highly-educated demographic! It’s well known that textbooks lose their value by the end of a class course, making it difficult, if not impossible, to recoup your purchasing costs with buyback. Renting guarantees you get your money’s worth, upfront, from college tomes you will never use again. Plus, renting is so easy. No more trips to the bookstore. CBR offers every title—in new or gently-used condition—online. With one quick search, you’ll be ready for classes. So, join your peers and make your college life a little bit easier (and wealthier).

Why Choose Us?

1. We have a top notch support staff. We hire problem solvers that are only a call or chat box away.

2. We've been around since the beginning. We pioneered textbook rentals in 2007, so you can be confident we know what we're doing.

3. You'll save money. Pay less than half price to rent textbooks, and if you decide you want to keep the book instead of renting it, just pay us the difference and the book is yours.

4. We have a 21 day risk free guarantee. Return your book for any reason within 21 days for a full refund.

Making A Difference

Operation Smile is an incredible organization that forever changes children’s lives through reconstructive cleft lip surgeries. The long-term improvement in quality of life for the children that receive these surgeries is almost incomprehensible.

We’re honored to support the children of Operation Smile.
