Making a Difference – Operation Smile
We're ecstatic to announce our Making a Difference Program. We have upped the ante in a serious way, and officially teamed up with Operation Smile, an out of this world, awesome organization, that performs life changing cleft lip surgeries on children whose families could not otherwise afford it. The long term Improvement in quality of life for the children that receive these surgeries is almost incomprehensible. We have committed to donating enough money to cover a minimum of 1,000 life changing surgeries. We hope to beat that number, but it's a significant commitment. Like Big! 2010 marked a big year for CampusBookRentals.com. We outgrew our 4th warehouse, reached students on over 5,500 college campuses, and more than doubled our workforce. We decided to give back this year as a sponsor of “Project Guatemala”; a charity project created by students at Clearfield High School. Over 40 students traveled to Guatemala to build a daycare, outfitted with toys, a library, and teachers. We were fortunate to donate to this cause and help see (from a distance) that project become a reality. You can read all about it here: http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/neighborhooddaviscounty/50926838-123/clearfield-guatemala-matheson-project.html.csp?page=1. For our Making a Difference project 2009, we took a suggestion from one of our customers to give assistance to a summer kids program at an underprivileged elementary school. Following our customer's lead, we contacted Washington Elementary in downtown Salt Lake City, UT and learned they needed various supplies to make the program a success. It's a great cause that keeps kids off the streets and busy with worthwhile activities, projects, and games while they're on summer break. We broke from the office for the better part of a day to fill up shopping carts at Walmart and Target. It was a crazy spectrum of supplies from paint, clay, glitter and glue, to soccer balls, dodge balls, Frisbees and jump ropes. It was fun to be hands on and get these supplies delivered to the summer program. We're looking forward to 2010. Please feel free to send your suggestions to info@CampusBookRentals.com. We are headquartered in Ogden, UT, but that doesn't limit our ability to take our Making a Difference program to other regions. If you can think if a worthwhile project, we'll consider it, I promise. CampusBookRentals.com is dedicated to making a difference in the world through humanitarian projects, and it’s all made possible because of our customers who rent textbooks rather than buy them. Although you probably didn’t know, when you rent from our site we donate a portion of the rental fee to our humanitarian project fund which is used on at least one project each year. Our 2008 project is very important to us. We have committed to provide laptops to school children through the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) foundation. You can visit their site and learn more about this awesome undertaking by clicking here. The OLPC foundation opens doors and opportunities to children who would otherwise have little chance. We're excited to be helping in this effort and you should be too! Kudos to the OLPC for their accomplishment in bettering the world through education. Please help us reach our commitment of donating one hundred laptops. All you have to do is rent your textbooks. You'll be saving money and changing lives. Stay in touch with our projects through our “Making a Difference” link. We’ll post pictures, progress, and keep you involved in the difference YOU are making by being a customer of CampusBookRentals.com. Thank You! - The CampusBookRentals.com Team
So for EVERY book rented this year, we will donate a portion of the proceeds to Operation Smile with our sights set on meeting and exceeding our goal of 1,000 lives changed. So add that extra book to your cart, and consider this goal as you go back to school this year. CampusBookRentals.com supports the children of Operation Smile, and we thank you for your support.
